Designing a Digital Bank from the Ground Up
Overview
Advance Intelligence Group set out to create a new digital bank
in the Philippines — a modern platform designed to expand access
to financial services.
At Vacuumlabs, I joined a
multidisciplinary team of eight squads working to design and
launch a full-service bank in under 12 months.
The Challenge
We aimed to design a digital bank that could compete with
established institutions while remaining approachable and
intuitive for new users.
The challenge was to simplify
complex financial products — from loans to onboarding — into an
experience that feels seamless and trustworthy.
Design Process
We began with user research and market discovery to understand
local needs and behaviors.
Each squad owned a specific part
of the bank — from payments to cards — ensuring cohesion across
the product ecosystem.
Design and engineering worked
iteratively, with prototypes tested continuously to inform
design decisions.
My Role
I focused on user journeys for card management, loan products,
and onboarding flows.
I mentored junior designers, built
prototypes, and collaborated with PMs and developers to align
user experience with business goals.
Outcome
In less than a year, we launched a full digital banking suite — a customer mobile app and an internal web platform — forming the foundation of a new, full-service bank in the Philippines.
Key Contributions
- Designed key user flows for cards, loans, and onboarding
- Mentored junior designers on the project
- Created prototypes for user validation and research
